In the past year, YouTube has brought Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo to music fans’ homes wherever they may be, expanding the American music festival experience to a much wider audience. A couple of days ago, we brought you the news of Jay Z’s Made in America music festival being live streamed on YouTube this weekend.
Now, YouTube’s festival-streaming caravan will reach the United Kingdom for the first time in a couple of weeks as Bestival hits the Isle of Wight September 7-9. Headliners include Florence + The Machine, Stevie Wonder and 80’s new wave outfit New Order. Other performers on the bill include The xx, Friendly Fires and Bat for Lashes.
You can watch the live event on your laptop, desktop on mobile device by simply going to youtube.com/bestivaltv. If you want to chat about Bestival, remember to hashtag #bestivallive on Twitter and join in the conversation.
DJ Rob Da Bank, one of the curators for Bestival, told the Press Association that he felt inspired by watching festivals like Coachella on YouTube: “”I’ve been watching festivals such as Coachella and Tomorrowland on YouTube and loving the futuristic new angle on showing festivals in a different light via a medium that nearly everyone in the music and festival worlds is tuned into.”
Once Bestival ends, fans can watch individual performances for up to 90 days on the Bestival YouTube page.
If Bestival succeeds at garnering a huge worldwide audience on YouTube, this could open the door for more European festivals streaming live like Glastonbury in England, Roskilde in Denmark and Pukkelpop in the Netherlands.
