Without a great host an award show is as good as sunk. Don’t believe me? Go ahead and check out YouTube videos of James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosting the 84th Academy Awards, or as they’re now known, “the night when James Franco got super high and wore a tuxedo.”
Billy Crystal doesn’t keep getting invited back to host the Oscars simply because “City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold” was terrific. The guy is a pro. He could host an all-giraffe beauty pageant and make it magical. No one cares about the Golden Globes, but we all tuned in anyway to see Tina Fey and Amy Poehler kill it.
Thankfully, Nerdist Industries founder and host of The Nerdist podcast Chris Hardwick will host this year’s third annual Streamy Awards. As an ambassador of “nerd culture,” Hardwick currently hosts AMC’s “Talking Dead,” which is a supplementary after-show following the wildly successful drama “The Walking Dead.”
The Nerdist Channel has also quickly climbed to the top of YouTube charts with a unique blend of geek-centric programming including Neil Patrick Harris’ “Neil’s Puppet Dreams” and “Star Talk” with Neil deGrasse Tyson.
The award show will be streaming live from The Hollywood Palladium on February 17, 2013.
