Instagram Rants: ‘American Idol’s’ Fantasia Barrino Defends Anti-Gay Post, Says, ‘My Whole Team Is Gay’

You know that point when someone tells a funny story, gets a laugh and keeps on going? Suddenly, someone’s story about looking for a pair of glasses only to realize they were wearing them becomes a retelling of the time they hit something on a foggy highway and just kept driving.

In my personal experience, brevity is the best policy. Things can turn weird real fast if you keep chasing that peer-approved high.

Taking that advice and doing the complete opposite, “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino has started a one-person flame war via Instagram.

Responding to the negative reception from a controversial Instagram message posted earlier this week, Barrino double downed on her comments, writing:

“MY WHOLE TEAM IS GAY, MY MANAGER IS GAY, MIDDLE FINGER UP TO THOSE WHO SEAK [sic] TO DESTROY ME. IT WON’T WORK.”

On Monday, Barrino took to Instagram and posted what many saw as an anti-gay post, which read:

“”I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERNMENT THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!! Its a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! I’m not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!”

Barrino went on the explain that her comments were taken “out of context,” which when posted to Instagram, can only mean she was probably having a phone conversation when her reception cut out so she thought, “I SHOULD JUST FINISH THIS WITH AN INSTAGRAM POST!!!!!”

My advice to Barrino and the rest of the Instagram users of the world is this: First, get the caps lock button on your keypad fixed. Second, if you are feeling particularly worked up about something, instead of writing a social media rant, write a letter and mail it to Santa Claus. He seems like a pretty open-minded guy who is willing to tolerate people’s bullshit rants.

Also, the “everyone I work with is gay” argument isn’t cutting it anymore. It’s 2013; no one is buying the ole approval by association defense.
