Good news, culturally elite bon vivants! Your 2nd round of YouTube Nextup Collaborators have been announced!
The first class, which included NMR friends Taryn Southern and Olga Kay (also Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier) was selected back in December and have been busy pushing out content like I push out stools … from beneath people at diners (*cough). But now it is time for a squad of newbies to come in and cut their teeth on the L.A. Creator Space equipment.
For those unaware of the YouTube Nextup contest, just sit right down and I’ll tell you a tale. YouTube recently opened up a state-of-the-art creator lab in Los Angeles with the intent of making a better brand of YouTubers (f*ck you, Numa Numa kid). In order to fill this lab, with its primo editing bays and sound stages, YouTube holds a sort of application/contest for content creators all over the YouTube landscape. Every season, a new list of 30 creators is unveiled. And for the spring season, that time is NOW!
Like basketball team tryouts in high school, YouTube just pins its list to a bulletin board and lets the losers find out that they didn’t make the cut. It was cruel for you then, it’s cruel for you now. But don’t give up, sport — there’s always next season. Of course, because they’re kind of a “new media” company and into “new media” stuff, that paper list is actually a video. Good luck with that.
So without further adieu, here is the list of 2013’s recipients in video format:
And in handy list format:
