YouTube is aiming for country music viewers by launching a new channel called Country Now.
The company is teaming up with GreenLight Media & Marketing to develop and produce programs dedicated to country music and its fans, including shows produced by Nashville stars and record companies.
On YouTube’s commitment to country music, GreenLight Media & Marketing President Dominic Sandifer said in a statement: “YouTube’s commitment to this channel as part of its Original Channel initiative, which is only a year old, is indicative of the attention and respect YouTube is giving to Country Music and lifestyle, country artists and their fans.”
Sandifer said that the project has been in the works at YouTube since spring when YouTube realized they needed a channel that would tap into the large country music following.
Some of the programs rolling out on the Country Now channel include “Country Download,” which dishes out the latest country music news every week, “Hear & Now,” a program that talks about the latest releases in country music, “OMC (Oh My Country!),” a country music fashion series, and “I Love My Country,” a weekly animated series.
