Whenever Mark Zuckerberg announces a press conference, you know that something big is on the horizon for Facebook. This time, he’s inviting the media to “Come See Our New Home on Android” at Facebook headquarters on April 4.
Even though Facebook has been mum on what the press conference is about besides their name-dropping Android, it’s fueling suspicion that a “Facebook phone” or new mobile platform may become a reality. 9to5google reports from unnamed sources said that the company will announce a new Android phone called “Facebook Home.”
9to5google added that “Facebook Home” will integrate Facebook’s Messenger, photo and contacts apps into one easily accessible form. As far as what the phone will look like, the website Skift.com said that phone would look similar to an iPhone with a 4.3-inch screen, 16 GB of storage, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.6-megapixel front camera.
If Facebook and HTC’s collaboration turns out to be true, this will be Facebook’s attempt to compete in the growing smartphone market and bring more than three years of persistent rumors of a “Facebook phone” into reality.
