[CORRECTION 5/12/13 12:16 a.m. PST] We have been contacted notifying us that the actual number of layoffs is about half of what we initially reported (70).
According to a few very credible sources with knowledge of the matter, Maker Studios laid off multiple employees recently.
This is what Maker Studios had to say in a statement to NMR:
“Our business is evolving and as we strategically plan for our next phase of growth, we are making adjustments in some key areas and changing allocation of internal resources. We made these staff reductions in some areas while we are actively hiring in key divisions.
As some of you may know, Maker has been going through a lot lately, with Ray William Johnson threatening a lawsuit over the release of his Adsense account, and CEO Danny Zappin stepping down and being replaced by former company chairman Ynon Kreiz.
While more details of Maker’s layoffs is still unknown, it could be one of the major changes Kreiz is looking to make after taking on his new position to help expand Maker Studios.
We will update this post as we hear more developments regarding this matter.
