We’ve entered an age where there is a large push towards education on YouTube. Gone are the farting dog videos, in is the knowledge.

Channels like Wisecrack, Vsauce, The Game Theorists and Cinefix are all the rage as people look to improve themselves while still being entertained. But as the amount of learning goes up, the competition increases in that sector as well. You can’t just teach someone now, you have to entertain them via a gimmick.

To that end, Wisecrack has a new show called Boss Bitches of History. And since it’s Wisecrack, you know it’s going to be A. Steeped in slang and B. AMAZING.

This new series, which just launched today, takes a little getting used to — but stick with it!

Initially, the two sassy white chicks being all attitude and sh*t was, like, off-putting. I was all set to bounce back out, but something told me to stay the course. And I’m glad I did. I am yet again a fan of the beat that Wisecrack is laying down.

The first episode, Cleopatra, details the famous Egyptian queen and all that went into her being a so-called Boss Bitch.

The second episode, on Marie-Jospéphine dite Angélique, is even better than the first, partly because I learned something (as in, I didn’t even know she existed!).

The series is created, written and hosted by Sovereign Syre and Ela Darling – who are, as Wisecrack’s site puts it, “two entertainers who defy contemporary standards of American intellectualism and feminism.” The duo is definitely funny and sharp. There are occasional missteps with the jokes — cutaways that don’t need to be there necessarily, but it’s a young series, give it time. I particularly was excited to find out that the hosts were the ones coming up with the words and not just parroting them out to us. Somehow, it increases the show’s watchability. These aren’t hired actresses — these are entertaining educators putting on a grand show of their own design.

As far as YouTube series go, Boss Bitches of History is also profane — which I love. Everything is talking about how women had to use their feminine wiles to get sh*t done, which as a basic doofus, arouses my passions — for history. And covering a topic which all too frequently gets glossed over in the history books — the contribution of strong women types.

Be sure to check it out and keep with it — you’ll feel smarter that you did.

And share this to spread the word of a good new series.
