Secret Characters Revealed for Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash

And there’s one we didn’t see coming

3 guesses who.

3 guesses who.

Nintendo has been pretty gracious these past few weeks regarding information for their new sports title, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. If you’ll remember in a trailer they dropped not too long ago, we got a look at the characters who we would see on the court, as well as four question blocks representing secret characters. Well let the speculation be over, as we finally know who these players are.

Dry Bowser and Bowser Jr.

Dry Bowser is no surprise. With his inclusion in Mario Kart 8, Mario Tennis Open, as well as his recent popularity among fans, it comes as no shock that he’d be showing up for another round. From the brief glimpse of him we get, it looks like he’ll be centered around power, which definitely fits his haunting appearance.

Along with Dry Bowser comes the bratty child himself, Bowser Jr. He’s not just standing on his own however, he’s operating through the use of his mini clown car just like in Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS. Because of his inclusion in the popular fighter, it makes perfect sense that he’d be in this title as well, further promoting both games. While not quite as expected as Dry Bowser, it’s still a satisfying addition nonethless.

Toadette

This comes as no surprise either. Toadette has been a major character since Mario Party 7, and has since been increasingly loved by fans. It might disappoint some people to see that the slot was given to her because she’s been in so many Mario games in the past, it’s easy to see why she got in, partially due to her inclusion in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. It seems from the footage we get that she’ll be agile like Toad. They’ll most likely clones of one another essentially.

Sprixie Princess

Here is the one nobody really saw coming. With only having one appearance prior to this game (Super Mario 3D World), there was no real evidence to point to her getting in the game. However, I’m glad to see Nintendo deciding to include at least one character out of left field (fingers crossed that we could be getting alternate costumes so that each of the Sprixies will get some representation). Who knows, maybe this will be the start of her getting future Mario titles from here on out?

It looks like we’ve got an official roster for the game on our hands. If this is true, are you satisfied with the roster? Who else would you like to see becoming a tennis champion?
