YouTube has proven to be a great stepping stone to getting your name out into the public eye and getting notoriety and fame. We have decided to look at the Top 5 Independent Women of YouTube to see how they have made it big.

 

5.“zeldaxlove64”

According to EW.com, Christina Grimmie aka zeldaxlove64 rose to fame when a friend convinced her to post a video of herself singing on YouTube when Grimmie didn’t want to do it.

Grimmie joined YouTube Feb. 9, 2009 and has uploaded more than 100 videos and has more than 1 million subscribers. Her most popular video posted on her channel is Me Singing “ET” by Katy Perry.

However, the video that Grimmie is best known for her video with Sam Tsui singing “Just A Dream” By Nelly. The video received over more than million views.

4.”communitychannel”

Tran joined YouTube Sept. 12, 2006 and posted her first video on Sept. 26, 2011. She has 281 videos uploaded and more than 1 million subscribers.

Her videos mainly consist of monologues that involve observational humor and social dilemmas. Tran also does skits, like mocking the cliché practices of advertisers, and every so often, parodies of other popular YouTube videos.

Her most popular video to date is a video parody How to fake a six pack  with over 35 million views. It is a parody of How to fake abs by pursebuzz.

3.”iJustine”

Justine Ezarik  is the creative mind of YouTube channel “iJustine,” which was created May 6, 2006. Her videos consist of lifecasting, in which she broadcasts events in their life through digital media.

She gained her celebrity status when she was sent a 300 page iPhone bill from AT&T in 2007.

Since she first debuted on YouTube, Ezarik’s video channel iJustine has more than 450 videos uploaded and over 1 million subscribers. Her most popular video to date, with more than 14 million views, is “I Gotta Feeling” Black Eyed Peas SPOOF.

Recently, Ezarik made a cameo on The CW’s “Vampire Diaries” where she played a bartender.

2.”JennaMarbles”

JennaMarbles, aka Jenna Mourey, is one of the newer female celebrities to join YouTube having created her account Feb. 16, 2010.

Mourey has 72 uploaded and more than 2 million subscribers.To date, her most popular video with over 34 million views is “How to trick people into thinking you’re good looking.”

Incidentally, this is also the first video that she posted on her YouTube Channel.

Earlier this month,  she released a rap song called “Bounce That D*ck,” featuring YouTube user supricky06. The video has received more than 3 million views and the song is available for download on iTunes.

1. “MichellePhan”

Michelle Phan is best known for her makeup and beauty tutorials on YouTube and has been a member since July 18, 2006 and has 182 videos uploaded with more than 1 million subscribers.

Phan’s videos consist of voice over instructions as she shows her viewers how to complete various looks, an example being the smokey eye look.

Phan’s most popular video to date is “Lady GaGa Poker Face Tutorial,” which has over 31 million views.

BellaSugar.com reported in Aug. 2011 that Lancôme made Phan their first video makeup artist.

Phan also has an eye shadow palate from Lancôme that can be purchased through Sephora.com
