NMR’s EXCLUSIVE Look at Ep. 3 of Machinima’s ‘The Controller: Medal of Honor Warfighter’

I’ll admit, when I first started watching Machinima Prime’s latest web series “The Controller: Medal of Honor Warfighter,” I expected the whole Bunim/Murray produced show to be a cringe-inducing affair. There is something about pairing a group of muscle-bound military experts with professional gamers that screams, “Someone is going to end up crying.” All I could imagine was a pale 90-pound kid wiping away tears with Cheeto-stained fingertips as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from “Full Metal Jacket” called him a “sissy.” The whole idea left me with no small amount of anxiety.

The first episode of “The Controller” introduces us to the four teams of gamers and military experts who will be competing in a gauntlet of gaming and live fire challenges for a $50,000 grand prize. In episode one, YouTube gaming celebrities xJaws, Optic Hecz, FaZe Temperrr, and my personal favorite Spikemouth jump right into the competition with a sharpshooting competition that ends in explosives.

While I was expecting the gamer’s military counterparts to bark orders at the YouTubers throughout the show, the dynamic between the teammates is actually anything but hostile. The setup of  “The Controller” forces the teammates to work together cohesively as the gaming experts also coach the ex-soldiers in first-person shooter game challenges.

Throwing the gamers and soldiers into worlds they should excel in, but obviously don’t, makes them vulnerable to a point that they must rely on one another to succeed.

YouTube’s favorite weapon expert FPSRussia hosts the live fire exercises, and it’s clear that the YouTuber’s specific brand of badassery isn’t winning some of the military experts over. In one clip, gamer Spikemouth exclaims, “FPSRussia is definitely a crazy guy. I mean, I’ve seen some of his work in the past and I don’t know how he does it, he is definitely crazy.” To which his Recon Marine and sniper partner responds, “I’ am not impressed.” Yeesh, lighten up, guy.

Regardless of how you feel about FPSRussia, there is no doubting that the guy knows how to rile people up. Just watch this exclusive clip below as the gun nut tells xJaws “big Optic Hecz made everyone else look like a bitch.” FPSRussia cares for no one’s feelings
