Just when I go and announce that Apple is running away with the smartphone buzz, Samsung comes back with a haymaker. Their ad for the Galaxy SIII is now the most viral thing on the Internet. The ad, which first aired yesterday on television and heavily mocks consumers of the new iPhone, is the fastest-growing viral video out there with 120,492 social media shares in just the past 24 hours. The second spot, meanwhile, is held by a trailer for upcoming film “The Hobbit,” with 117,892 shares.
Impressively, Samsung currently holds all three of the Internet’s top viral tech video spots, according to video-tracking site Unruly Media. The second and third spots are held by ads for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy Note 10.1.
Apple’s iPhone 5 ranks a feeble sixth on this same list, registering only 553 shares in the past 24 hours. To be fair though, many of Apple’s fanboys tuned in to the unshareable (and therefore untrackable) Apple.com to watch the iPhone spot.
In this war for mobile phone supremacy, the hype is firmly back in Samsung’s court, and I am done trying to guess what either of the two creative companies are going to pull next.
I just know it’s going to get a lot more messy before a winner is crowned.
