Ben Gibbard Drops ‘Former Lives’ on YouTube Before its Oct.16 Release Date

If you’ve been itching for some new Death Cab For Cutie material, you’ll have to wait a little while longer. On the other hand, lead singer Benjamin Gibbard’s first solo effort, “Former Lives,” will be hitting record shelves and iTunes next Tuesday. If you’d like to hear his debut album right now, or if you don’t have a few bucks to spare, YouTube is streaming it in its entirety starting today and ending next Tuesday on the Barsuk Records channel.

The 10-track album, titled “Former Lives,” clocks in under 37 minutes and could be considered a retrospective, more upbeat record than what you’d typically expect for a Death Cab For Cutie album. In a press release reported by USA Today, Gibbard says: “These songs span eight years, three relationships, living in two different places, drinking then not drinking.”

Gibbard will embark on a North American and European tour to promote his debut album starting this week in Seattle and ending in Paris on December 5.
