YouTube is set to officially open its Los Angeles YouTube Creator Space this Wednesday, November 28. Similar facilities have been built in the past in both London and New York to aid both established and emerging YouTube channel partners in their video projects. The creator space aims to give a place for partners to collaborate, learn from industry experts, and access state of the art equipment.
According to a spokesperson at YouTube:
“YouTube Space LA consists of teaching facilities for training programs and master classes, green screens, loaner equipment, post-production facilities and a screening room. The YouTube partners who can access the Space, upload content on a consistent basis, have amassed a loyal audience on the platform and earn money from ads placed against their videos. Think of it as a sports training facility, where creators come to hone their skills and as a result perform much better — in this case, making more, great content.”
I had the pleasure of attending YouTube’s L.A. Creator Space open house about two weeks ago and was very impressed with what I saw. Check out the pictures I took of the facility on my iPhone below. As you can see, YouTube did not skimp when it came to including high-end production equipment. The fact that creators can apply to work in this space and have access to this equipment for FREE is mind-blowing.
Where exactly is this facility located?
12422 W Bluff Creek Dr,
Los Angeles, CA 90094
Who can use this facility?
Anyone over the age of 18 who has an existing YouTube channel and is a member of the YouTube Partner Program can apply to work in this facility. You must also have insurance that covers your production including health, liability and workers’ compensation if applicable.
What sort of criteria is YouTube looking for during its selection process of applicants?
According to the YouTube Space L.A. Winter class application I got at the open house, they seek to work with channels that have “demonstrated a strong commitment to the YouTube platform,” often favoring channels that feature:
- Consistent publishing
- Substantial monthly views
- A large a growing subscriber base
- At least three prior collaborations with other YouTube channels
- A comprehensive plan for use of the space”
