Wassabi Productions Talks to NMR About Going Viral With ‘Rolanda’ & More [INTERVIEW]

The guys at Wassabi Productions have been creating funny skits on YouTube for seven years now — from skewering “Music in Real Life” to dishing out advice on how to get a girl. But it wasn’t until recently that they really hit their stride thanks to one of the most viral songs of 2012.

Their skit of a frantically obsessed homely-looking girl Ronalda (played by Roi Fabito), who fawns over the handsome Alex (Alex Burriss) as she tries to fend off the lovesick Richard (also played by Alex Burriss) is a direct parody of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.”

Since they introduced Ronalda, Alex and Richard last April, the video has been watched more than 41 million times, which has given Wassabi Productions more reason to keep cranking out this bizarre love triangle storyline.

NMR caught up with Wassabi Productions creators Fabito and Burriss recently, where they talked about how they began, what inspired them to create this love triangle and what they have in store for the future.
