The damage left in the wake of Hurricane Sandy is still far from being completely tallied. As of October 30, 2012 at least 7 deaths took place in New York while power still remains out for millions on the East Coast. Being on the other side of the country, it can be hard to really absorb the breadth of this storm’s destruction. We can read damage reports online and watch news anchors slosh around in waist-high flooding, but without actually being in the heat of it, there will always remain a disconnect.
The time-lapse video below captures Hurricane Sandy’s effect on New York leading up to the massive power outage that left thousands of residents in the dark. For all of us far removed from the natural disaster, this video serves, in a very small way, as a single-cam window into New York during the storm.
