‘A Short History Of The GIF’ Honors Our Friend The Graphics Interchange Format [VIDEO]

The internet has produced some pretty great innovations. None of them however have had as prolific a career as the GIF. Short for Graphics Interchange Format, the GIF was originally developed as a data compressor to help images download faster back when only perverts and scientists used the internet.

The GIF has survived some of the internet’s lowest points, coming out stronger and full of cats. To celebrate the glorious life of the GIF, LEGS Media put together a very fine piece of filmmaking detailing the birth and ascension of everyone’s favorite bitmap image format.
