Embarking on one of their most ambitious app expansions yet, Xbox Live will roll out more entertainment options for the Xbox 360 in the coming weeks.
According to Microsoft’s director of programming for Xbox Live Larry Hyrb, the game console’s entertainment service will launch more than 45 new apps, most of them country-specific. Today, United States Xbox users can download apps from Vimeo and CNET. Other apps launching in the United States in the coming weeks include content from such names as All3M, CrunchyRoll, Flixster, Machinima, MTV, PBS and The CW.
When it comes to getting the new apps for Xbox 360, Hyrb said in his blog post under his Xbox Live handle Major Nelson: “Give it some time though, we’re rolling out a lot of apps at once and it may take a day or two for all the apps to arrive. We will keep you updated as more of the world’s leading entertainment providers come to Xbox.”
The addition of 45-plus new apps definitely helps add to the growing trend of game consoles like Xbox 360 and Playstation for non-gaming purposes. By having YouTube, Netflix, Hulu Plus and now Vimeo apps on Xbox Live, non-gaming entertainment usage of Xbox 360 has increased 43% from last year, GameSutra reported.
