Netflix announced today that it will be collaborating with famous filmmaking siblings Lana and Andy Wachowski, the directors behind “The Matrix” trilogy and “Cloud Atlas,” to create a new original series, “Sense8,” exclusively for Netflix subscribers. The 10-episode series will be the internet debut for the Wachowskis, who will be collaborating on the series with J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of the awarding-winning television series “Babylon 5.” Few details have yet to be released about the project but Netflix is describing “Sense8” as “a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted.” The new series will be produced by independent television studio Georgeville Television and is set to be released late next year.

Previously this month, Netflix released their political thriller “House of Cards,” which quickly became one of the most-watched programs on the site. In the coming months Netflix is also set to release their original horror series “Hemlock Grove” as well as premiering new episodes of “Arrested Development” early next year. Netflix hopes to more strongly retain current subscribers and draw in new ones through their development of original web content.
