Maker Studios co-founders Ben Donovan, Danny Zappin and Lisa Donovan were a few of the many people honored by the Producers Guild of America (PGA) last week at the organization’s Digital Awards event held at Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk’s mansion.
The event also featured a live performance from Nice Peter and EpicLLOYD performing their hit Bill Gates vs. Steve Jobs battle from “Epic Rap Battles of History.”
Shay Carl, his wife and their kids watched it all happen and filmed parts of the offbeat ceremony for their Shaytards channel. Shay Carl looked back on his four years at Maker and said in his vlog on the company’s PGA honor: “April 11, four years ago was the very first time I flew out to Los Angeles to start this crazy company called Maker Studios and now, four years later, I am finding myself at a party where Morgan Freeman and Jim Carrey and Conan O’Brien and the inventors of Instagram and the executives of Pixar and Disney are winning awards and I’m eating shrimp cocktails with these people. What a crazy, insane ride!”
He added that accomplishments like this makes you “pause at those moments and just, kind of, take stock of where you’ve been, where you’ve come from and where you’re going and appreciate all the blessings in your life.”
