One year ago today, the internet world was blessed with the birth of its most beloved superstar, the one and only Tard the Grumpy Cat. Beloved for her chronically grumpy expression and “don’t-give-a-fuck” attitude, Grumpy Cat quickly rose to icon status following the posting of her photo onto Reddit. To quote Tard: “I had fun once. It was awful.” From there, a star was born.
Yet Grumpy Cat hasn’t let the fame go to her head despite her many television appearances, cameos in countless YouTube videos and being swarmed by thousands of fans who showed up at SXSW just to meet her. Not a bad life for a kitten with feline dwarfism and an underbite. And in celebration of her first birthday, I say we take a trip down memory lane to enjoy the best, or as Grumpy Cat would say, the worst, of her time on the internet. Happy Birthday, Grumpy Cat! The world has become a more wonderful place since we all found you.
