Jimmy McMillan, a perennial contender for flyest cat to ever stroll the jive streets of NYC is back with a new campaign and a fresh song to match his catchy slogan. Called “The Rent is Still Too Damn High,” the song features McMillan dropping 80s-era rap verses in his fancy-ass three-piece suit.
Normally, this is the sort of thing I rage about. You’ve had your moment of odd celebrity — now disappear into obscurity with some decency and respect for the cruel machinations of the world’s stage. But, well, damnit, Jimmy McMillan is right — the rent is still too damn high, and if that’s not enough, his song is actually kind of catchy.
I don’t know if I could bring myself to vote for McMillan were I an electorate member of New York proper. I’d probably want some sort of guarantee that he would ride the bus to work pantsless or eat cockroaches or something crazy like that. But let’s just say that it wouldn’t take too much more than a clean bill of mental health for me to want to see what the guy could do. I still can’t get past their other mayor/asshole banning drinks larger than 32 ounces. “For people’s own good” or not, this is America and that guy needs a good swift kick in the nuts.
Yeah, what the hell, Jimmy McMillan in ‘13. Let’s get that damn rent down!
