Last month, Vimeo announced at South by Southwest its Vimeo On Demand feature, which lets content creators on the video-sharing platform charge for their content.
Now Vimeo has launched a dedicated homepage for Vimeo On Demand, which focuses on premium content made by Vimeo creators that have used the platform.
Blake Whitman, Vimeo’s vice president of Creative Development, wrote on the company blog: “Looking for something to watch tonight? Boom. Check out ‘Vimeo Selects’ for titles we find interesting, or browse the entire On Demand catalog by genre. And you can watch anywhere — on your computer and futurephone, of course, but also on your gigantic flat-screen TV.”
In a recent interview with NMR, Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor said he was excited about the response from content creators about Vimeo On Demand, not only because of the subscriber growth but also because Vimeo gives them 90 percent of the revenue from signing up with the platform.
He said: “With the release of video on demand, I think it’s really a critical closing of that loop of empowering filmmakers not only to share their content but to actually earn some revenue. The way that we see the content catalog on that offering, in this very early stage shaping up, we think it’s going to be a meaningful part of our offering.”
