Mozilla, the creators of the Firefox browser, and iPhone video app Givit are teaming up on the annual Firefox Flicks filmmaking contest.
Givit will be the exclusive app of the contest, which encourages entrants to create films that show how web-enabled mobile devices have changed society. Aspiring filmmakers can enter the Firefox Flicks contest by downloading the Givit app first. Then they edit their iPhone films using the app and upload them into the Givit cloud. Once they’re finished, they should transfer the film to Vimeo.
Early Entry submissions close on May 29 and the final deadline is on July 31.
Hollywood personalities like actor and director Edward Norton and producers Franklin Leonard and Cooper Samuelson will judge submissions and the grand prize winner will work with Leonard and Samuelson on a commercial for the Firefox operating system.
Greg Kostello, CEO and founder of Givit, said in a statement: “Firefox Flicks is an amazing opportunity to show just how powerful Givit can be in easily crafting compelling, professional-quality videos right from an iPhone or iPad. We feel that Givit is democratizing video creation for the masses and we’re excited to see what kind of amazing creations Firefox Flicks contestants will create using the app.”
