Revision3 announced today that it has acquired the collective channels of YouTube’s Philip DeFranco according to Deadline. DeFranco will be joining the Revision3 programming team as Senior Vice President of Philip DeFranco Networks and Merchandise.
Among channels run by DeFranco are The Philip DeFranco Show and SourceFed, which recently won Audience Choice for Best Series of the Year at the third annual Streamy awards. In 2012, DeFranco signed with Revision3 and went on to produce the majority of the network’s content as well as host the 25th annual Shark Week on Discovery Channel, a subsidiary of Discovery Communications who acquired Revision3 last year.
Jim Louderback, CEO of Revision3, explained the acquisition in a statement: “We’ve had a blast working with Phil and his team as an affiliate, and we can’t wait to take the relationship way beyond 11.” Louderback added, “Phil knows better than anyone working the web today how to delight audiences, build passionate fanbases and launch new franchises.”
DeFranco started The Philip DeFranco show in 2006, which went on to receive over 1 billion views and attract more than 2.5 million subscribers . In 2012, DeFranco also launched SourceFed as part of YouTube’s $100 million original channel initiative. The multi-show channel currently has over 900,000 subscribers and continues to be one of the fastest-growing channels attached to the YouTube original channel initiative.
Regarding the acquisition and his new role at Revision3, DeFranco explained: “I am so excited to be a part of the team because they’re the one group that understands how to add value while not taking away from their content creators. At the end of the day, we still have the same main goals: make awesome content, work with amazing people, monetize it, and repeat.”
