Ricky Gervais’ Sitcom ‘Derek’ Coming To Netflix This Fall

Netflix is bringing Ricky Gervais’ latest sitcom, “Derek,” to subscribers worldwide this Fall.

The video-streaming site will release all seven 30-minute episodes of the British sitcom’s first season, written and starring Gervais, on September 12. “Derek” is a “bittersweet comedy-drama” that features Gervais as a man working at a retirement home who spends his days listening to the residents’ stories.

Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos announced Gervais’ latest sitcom in a statement: “Ricky Gervais is one of the most distinctive comedy voices of his generation. With ‘Derek,’ Ricky takes on new territory and mixes comedy with drama that is sometimes touching and sometimes heartbreaking.”

Besides Netflix, Gervais recently started his own YouTube channel, which brought back his “Office” character David Brent.
