YouTube Videos Capture The Oklahoma Tornado’s Devastation

A powerful tornado devastated the Oklahoma town of Moore Monday, killing 24 people and injuring dozens of others. In just a short amount of time, hundreds of videos showing the destructive tornado have surfaced on YouTube, bringing the news at lightning speed. Before YouTube, viewers could only see what was happening through television news footage from the scene, which could take as many as several hours to produce.

Now with more people using smartphones and digital cameras, YouTubers can document these terrifying disasters in real time. YouTube has been a great resource for citizen journalists to post news as it happens. Many traditional news channels are even using YouTube videos submitted by people in the eye of the storm first before sending their cameras to the location.

Here are five videos submitted by YouTube users that show the tornado as it destroys parts of the Oklahoma City suburb.
