Arizona Senator Jeff Flake’s 15-year-old son, Tanner, is in a lot of hot water after his fake suicide video and anti-semitic and homophobic tweets went viral this week. The video, which was originally uploaded onto Tanner’s YouTube channel two years ago, shows Tanner as he pretends to shoot himself in the head with a gun. In the description, Tanner wrote: “13 year old child was found dead in home. This video was found on the computer and leaked to the internet. lol why would somebody want to see something like this anyways? people are weird.”
Following the upload of the video, Tanner often posted offensive comments to both his Twitter and YouTube pages, referring to people as “faggots” and “Jews.”
His Twitter and YouTube accounts have been closed and recently Senator Flake apologized for his son’s actions. In a statement to Buzzfeed, Senator Flake stated: “I’m very disappointed in my teenage son’s words, and I sincerely apologize for the insensitivity. This language is unacceptable, anywhere. Needless to say, I’ve already spoken with him about this, he has apologized, and I apologize as well.”
So Happy Father’s Day, Senator Flake, and here’s to hoping 2014 turns out a little better.
