Miss Utah USA’s Bumbling Answer Over Equal Pay Question Goes Viral [VIDEO]

Miss Connecticut Erin Brady may have won the Miss USA 2013 crown last night, but it was Miss Utah Marissa Powell’s bumbling answer to a question about equal pay that has become the most viral YouTube moment of the pageant.

Judge and “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes asked the 20-year-old contestant during the Miss USA question and answer portion: “A recent report shows that in 40% of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does it say about society?”

In her 30-second response, Powell tied the problems of equal pay to education and job creation. However, she struggled to find the right words and eventually told Leakes: “I think especially the men are seen as the leaders of this, and so we need to try to figure out how to create education better so that we can solve this problem. Thank you.”

Powell’s awful answer bears similarities to Miss Teen South Carolina 2007 Caitlin Upton fumbling her response during the question and answer portion of Miss Teen USA. She attempted to answer why many Americans can’t find USA on the map, and video clips of that moment garnered more than 78 million views.
