AwesomenessTV has just announced that it will be debuting an original comedy series on Nickelodeon starting Monday, July 1 at 8 p.m ET. Titled “AwesomenessTV,” the half-hour show will weave together clips from AwesomenessTV’s web series including character sketches, celebrity satires and parody music videos. The show will be hosted by Daniella Monet, who previously played Trina Vega on Nickelodeon’s sitcom “Victorious.”
As a way of getting fans involved in the new show, AwesomenessTV is holding a contest and looking to feature hilarious YouTube videos on the show. To enter the contest, users must upload their original comedy video to the AwesomenessTV official Facebook app no later than August 1.
“The long-term goal is to build audience and own eyeballs over time,”AwesomenessTV CEO Brian Robbins stated to Variety. “[On YouTube] it might take a little time for ad revenue to catch up. But an eyeball is an eyeball is an eyeball — no matter where it is, on TV or online.”
Since its launch in May 2012, AwesomenessTV has garnered more than 1 billion YouTube views, and just a year since its YouTube launch, the network was acquired by Dreamworks Animation in a $33 million deal.
