When 9-year-old Tanner Lunsford stumbled into his living room, meekly crying out while choking on a quarter, his older brother knew exactly what to do. Only 11-years-old, Jayme dislodged the coin by performing the Heimlich maneuver that ultimately saved his Tanner’s life.
When asked by his mom where he learned to do the Heimlich maneuver, Jayme revealed that he learned the life-saving technique from a YouTube video he had randomly stumbled upon when sitting with her at work. Jayme shared with his mother that Tanner was his little brother, and he was just doing what needed to be done in that situation.
“I didn’t even know he knew how to do that,” Crystal Lunsford, Tanner and Jayme’s mother, told Beaumonte Enterprise. “As much as they fight and argue, when it came down to it, (Jamey) had (Tanner’s) back.”
So we are all prepared to deal with these kinds of situations, here are three videos inspired by Jayme’s heroic actions that will teach you the proper way to perform the Heimlich maneuver on another person, yourself and an infant.
