Walker will be in charge of leading Base79’s content partnerships and would be responsible for making sure that these partnerships help foster the company’s growth worldwide.
Walker told NMR about his duties as chief content officer: “I want to help make Base79 a truly international business and the first choice partner for video creators, content owners and brands that want to build audiences worldwide. We’ll continue to expand our offices globally, and will tap into the wealth of opportunity we see in local and emerging markets.”
He added: “Going forward we will also become much more active in developing new and original content channels, and working with our partners and advertisers to tell stories that audiences will love and engage with. Base79 has an impressive team with an array of skills, expertise and knowledge and I hope that my background and experience will strengthen how we operate in this fast-changing multi-platform video market. The opportunities are unlimited, it’s really a question of where to place our bets next.”
Prior to joining Base79, Walker worked at YouTube for seven years in charge of content partnerships in the Europe, Middle East and Africa market where he helped launched YouTube in the region and secured landmark deals with the BBC and a sports deal with the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Recently, Walker helped secure music publishing deals with Universal Music Publishing and France’s SACEM publishers’ society.
Base79 claims more than 650 million views per month throughout more than 800 channels under its wing. It counts European YouTube comedians Remi Gaillard and ElRubius as its content partners and also has deals with prominent production companies like BBC Worldwide and Endemol.
