PewDiePie is officially the most subscribed YouTube creator in the world. According to YouTube analytics site VidStatsX, 23-year-old Felix Kjellberg (good luck trying to pronounce that) surpassed longtime top spot holder Smosh late last night.
“When I started my YouTube channel in 2010, I never imagined that one day it would be the most subscribed channel in the world and that I would be a part of such a great community,” said Kjellberg in a statement issued by his network, Maker Studios.
Currently, the PewDiePie YouTube channel has 11,928,710 subscribers compared to the Smosh YouTube channel’s 11,921,487 subs. Kjellberg launched his channel in 2010 and has since become one of YouTube’s most prominent figures in gaming.
At his current rate, Kjellberg is only expected to climb in subscriber numbers as his channel averages around 40,000 new subscribers a day and has seen a 150 percent monthly subscriber increase recently.
“We are all celebrating PewDiePie’s rise to the top,” said Ben Donovan, co-founder and president, Maker Studios. “He is a great example of how a YouTube content creator can amass a worldwide following due to passion and creativity, and his large subscriber base showcases the loyalty and strong connection he has to his ‘bros’.”
Congratulations to PewDiePie / Kjellberg. It’s a big day for all the bros out there.
