Just released last night, Todrick Hall’s latest music video “Cinderonce” has become a viral sensation with just over 48,000 views in less than a day. The music video retells the beloved story of Cinderella through a compilation of Beyonce songs. Starring in the video as none other than Prince Charming himself, Todrick shares with NMR the inspiration behind “Cinderonce” stating:
“I was inspired by movies like ‘The Wiz; and also Rogers and Hammerstein’s ‘Cinderella’ starring Whitney Houston and Brandy. That movie musical changed my life and was one of the first moments in life where I vividly remember saying to myself, ‘That’s what I was meant to do!’ My grandmother loved the story of Cinderella and so did my mom, so it holds almost as special of a place in my heart as ‘The Wizard of Oz’ does. I get a lot of flack from the African American community from my parody videos where I sometimes poke fun at stereotypes. I wanted this to be a beautiful representation of a classic story where these lovable characters just happen to be caramel. I think it’s beautiful and it’s one of the works that I’m the most proud of.”
Just last month, Todrick partnered with Pentatonix acapella group and created a “Wizard of Oz”-inspired music video that has been viewed over 2.7 million times on YouTube. For his latest video, Todrick not only wanted to pay tribute to the African American community but also the LGBT community as well.
“The best part of filming was seeing the horses come to life. I wanted to have a section that reached the LGBT community since Beyonce is a huge supporter and they also make up 50 percent of her fan base. Watching that scene, which was the most magical of all the scenes, come to life was just a joy, and it looks just as good on film as it did in real life,” comments Todrick.
Under the management of Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, Todrick will continue to focus on making high-quality content for his YouTube channel. “I have so many concepts and ideas that I would really like to make come to life, but it’s just so complicated as a one-man army to bring them to life,” says Todrick. “My new manager Scooter Braun has helped tremendously and over the last two months since I signed with him, my life has changed dramatically. I’m so proud to call him my manager; he’s like the dad I never had, and he’s teaching me so much about the business. He’s also taught me the importance of quality over quantity which I sometimes have a difficulty with, so I’m taking each day one by one. But, I will say that I’ve got some beautiful creations in my mind, and I can’t wait for the world to see them.”
