“Doctor Who” is turning 50, and they’re celebrating it YouTube-style.
The show will be hosted by Veronica Belmont, who also hosts shows for Revision3 and BBC America, and will begin airing live on November 23 at 11:30 a.m. PT on BBC America and stream globally simultaneously on the BBC America YouTube channel leading in to the premiere of the “Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor” 50th anniversary special at 11:50 a.m. PT.
Belmont commented on her gig in a press release, saying: “I’m happy to report that the live pre-show went off without a ?hitch, and that fans everywhere thoroughly enjoyed ‘The Day of the Doctor.’ At least, they did in the time stream I just came from.”
The Nerdist-produced pre-show will feature a live curation of fan-created content while its being shared on social media. Slated special guests include Phil DeFranco, among other YouTube stars to be confirmed.
Once the anniversary special has aired, the BBC America YouTube channel will host an exclusive post-show at 1 p.m. PT. Later on in the day at 4 p.m. PT, BBC America and its YouTube channel will simulcast another pre-show before the special’s primetime broadcast, because apparently NO ONE CAN GET ENOUGH OF “DOCTOR WHO.”
BBC America General Manager Perry Simon said: “Doctor Who has an amazing social media ?following and is enormously popular, with millions of views on YouTube. Partnering with YouTube on an innovative pre-show will enable fans everywhere to join our celebration of this groundbreaking series’ ?50th anniversary.”
