Well, I guess this internet thing is here to stay …
Shaking the very pillars of the Earth today, Endemol, the Netherlands-based television production company who puts out such boob tube staples as “Big Brother,” has announced plans to invest $40 million in a new multi-channel network. Planning on producing content for platforms including YouTube, AOL, Dailymotion, MSN and Yahoo, Endemol will distribute their own high-quality original productions as well as acquired third-party content.
The $40 million plan makes the investment the largest one ever put into a MCN, besting the $30 million venture capital grab by Maker Studios earlier this year. Endemol already has over 100 YouTube channels in Germany, so they’re no stranger to the game that they will soon be changing dramatically.
“Endemol is more than just a great television company; we’re a global content creator across all platforms, and we want to further invest in our own creativity and IP (intellectual property) to stay innovative,” Endemol Group president Tim Hincks said in an interview with Variety.
Get set people, because the streaming content landscape is about to get a whole lot wilder.
