Bart Baker Celebrates Lorde Parody Victory, Criticizes YouTube Copyright System in Latest Video

Fresh off his ‘Royals’ parody video’s reinstatement on YouTube, Bart Baker released a statement video yesterday celebrating his victory and also thanking his fans for their support and Lorde’s music publisher for correcting the problem. Toward the end of the video, Baker pleads for YouTube to make changes to their copyright system.

Baker says in the video: “True talk, YouTube’s copyright system is a total mess. It’s abused and broken every day. Anyone can file a copyright takedown on any video at any time. I mean, c’mon, that’s a ridiculous and flawed system. YouTubers like myself who do this as a full-time job are always at risk. People’s livelihoods are at stake because of this process. YouTube, there has to be a better way, and I really, really hope you at least try to figure it out.”

Neither Songs Music Publishing or YouTube have yet to officially comment on Baker’s video’s initial takedown or its reinstatement.
