Hollywood take note: After one day, Kickstarter project “Kung Fury” has over three-fourths of its $200,000 Kickstarter goal achieved and with it being the talk of the internet right now, it will probably be completely funded by the end of this sentence. Or this one.
The project, a sort of riff on 80s cop movies and cheeseball special effects, is the brilliant brainchild of David Sandberg, a visual artist working under the guise of the awesomely-named company Laser Unicorns. Invoking Thor, and a Viking beauty, an 80s Miami cop goes back in time to battle a kung fu-master in the form of time-travelling Adolf Hitler (Kung Führer). Also, there are dinosaurs. It looks amazing. Beyond amazing, actually. For those of us born in the 80s, this is pretty much the project we’ve been waiting for since the last good “Maniac Cop.”
The film is mostly completed with its principal photography, so really what they are looking for is the money to pay a bunch of video artists to create the digital effects to make this project as amazing as it is capable of being.
We’ve reached out to Sandberg, the director and star of the project, so keep checking with us to see if the Swedish visionary responds. And by all means, contribute to this awesome Kickstarter while you can. People, we need this. I need this.

[…] There’s a lot of subcultures and cottage industries — not all of them matter. A gay rodeo doesn’t feel to me like one of those “essential stories,” but I could be wrong. At the end of the day it depends on the personalities involved. And so rather than me be the asshole doorman, I decided I would give it as much hype as I could muster and see what you all decided to do with it. Especially since I am clearly not the best judge of what crowdfunding projects really matter. […]
