If you need a reason to have less faith in Congress, here it is:
Seth Rogen gave a stirring and personal speech yesterday on the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s. His mother-in-law is afflicted with it and he got to witness as she succumbed to the disease in her mid-50s. Too bad only a cursory couple of politicians stuck around to hear his speech. A wide shot of the congressional chambers taken during the speech yesterday reveal that the space Rogen is addressing is nearly empty.
The thorn came after Mark Kirk, a senator from Illinois, showed up like many of the other senators, only to have his picture taken with a celebrity. Kirk then left before the speech, despite being on the subcommittee Rogen was addressing. When Kirk commended Rogen on Twitter for his speech, Rogen called him out for leaving early. Ouch. This one has to sting as Kirk has clearly not yet thought of a non-humiliating excuse. I’d say, “Fuck man, I had diarrhea and shit my pants.” That might, might be the only thing to get him out of it.
Or I suppose he could say, “Hey man, I watched it on Reddit with everybody else.” That might work too. Even better than the “diarrhea pants” thing, probably …
