The landscape of available YouTube acquisitions just got a little smaller as Canal Plus picked up French comedy MCN Studio Bagel. Canal Plus, a pay television service out of France, enhances its new media portfolio with the also-French YouTube company that leads the French nation in humor channels with over 6 million subscribers and nearly 40 million views every month.
Developed in 2012, some of Studio Bagel’s network channels include Studio Bagel, Les Tutos and Le Dezapping. The founder and CEO of Studio Bagel, Lorenzo Benedetti, will stay on to run the company and develop new projects under the Canal Plus flag.
“We are proud to accompany the development of Studio Bagel, one of the most creative start-ups in France. With Studio Bagel, Canal Plus Group is stepping up its already strong presence among millions of YouTube users,” said Rodolphe Belmer, Canal Plus Group CEO.
From what I understand of the French, their humor channels likely revolve around Jerry Lewis impressions and sword-fighting with baguettes.
