Combine a few rounds of Heinekens, your closest friends, a freshly minted billionaire, and you’ve got a recipe for one rowdy selfie-video. Whilst popping bottles in celebration, Dr. Dre couldn’t help but spill the beans that he was “the first billionaire in hip-hop” in a video filmed by his brother-from-another-mother Tyrese Gibson.
On May 8, the Financial Times broke the story that Beats Electronics were finalizing a deal with Apple to sell for reportedly $3.2 billion, and within hours Gibson had posted the selfie-video to Facebook wherein Dr. Dre boasts about the news.
Not to burst his bubble, but Forbes estimates that because he has a 20-25 percent stake in his company, after taxes he’ll probably be left in the neighborhood of $800 million. Not a billionaire, but still beating Diddy by $100 million in the race for the richest hip-hop mogul.
So we say cheers to you Dr. Dre, for becoming the richest doctor in America without actually saving one life. Dreams really can come true.
