Just because trends die, doesn’t mean their popularity does. That seems counterintuitive, right? Yeah, we thought so too — but as it turns out, just because a trend is over and all the “popular kids” have moved on to something else, doesn’t mean that NOBODY is still aboard the train. If the vendors at the Santa Monica Pier are any indication, that whole ‘trucker cap thing’ is still alive and well. And remember “Gangnam Style,” the poppy track from Kpop superstar Psy? Yeah, that thing is still going too apparently.
“Gangnam Style” is about to hit the further rarified air of 2 billion YouTube views. For context, the next most popular video, Justin Bieber’s “Baby” just cracked a billion views, so to say it is in a league all its own is an understatement. This song is actually more popular than “The Macarena” from an analytics perspective.
While “Gangnam Style” hasn’t gone over the 2 billion milestone yet, it will within the next 24 hours — particularly because people are now going to start popping in at frenzied intervals to see if its gone yet.
Apparently the day when NMR no longer has to mention “Gangnam Style” is a long, long way off. Actually, for us, that’s probably a good thing.
Share this article because you will never achieve 2 billion of anything — except pimples maybe.
