Obviously, we at NMR think that YouTubers and social media celebs deserve the rock star treatment. Still, even we are impressed that Alfie Deyes, Marcus Butler, Joe Sugg, Louise Pentland, Zoe Sugg, and Dan Howell were able to create such a stir in the presence of literal rock stars, One Direction.
According to their various daily vlogs, the group attended a One Direction concert at Wembley Stadium. Fans were so excited to catch a glimpse of the popular vloggers that security was forced to move them from their general admission seats to a more secure area of the arena. Apparently the only thing that can throw a group of ecstatic Directioners into an even bigger frenzy is a possible Zalfie sighting.
This incident comes just a few weeks after Louise (SprinkleofGlitter) touched off a major debate about the YouTuber/fan relationship in her video “YouTube Culture”. The debate went viral, with many established creators and fans weighing in on the ever increasing gap between the people who make videos and those who watch them. A group of popular vloggers getting swarmed at a concert only serves to highlight how big that divide is becoming.
