So The Onion has started a site parodying Buzzfeed. Be grateful that you are reading that information here, because this is the shit I had to wade through on another site to bring you this information:
“The past few years have seen countless attempts to poke some of the steaming, foul air out of the gaseous, fetid corpse of online discourse, most regularly in mocking japes aimed at the likes of BuzzFeed, and yet the thousand-beaked leviathan remains impervious to any attack.”
Hot christ on a cracker that is terrible. You know that guy is wearing a fedora while typing (M’lady).
Yeah, so the new site, called ClickHole, puts out an endless stream of the quizzes that Buzzfeed is known for — only with a funny bent (i.e. “If I ordered fries, would you have some?”).
Says the copy on the Clickhole site:
“Let’s be honest: Today, the average website carelessly churns out hundreds of pieces of pandering, misleading content, most of which tragically fall short of going viral. At ClickHole, we refuse to stand for this. We strive to make sure that all of our content panders to and misleads our readers just enough to make it go viral.”
It is a curious endeavour (like “The Onion Movie”), especially considering that traffic and interests in Buzzfeed’s questionnaires has slowed recently. Is the joke as funny if you’re beating them on the downswing of their existence?
