What If They Follow You? CIA Officially Joins Twitter With A Joke

The CIA just became Twitter’s most popular new social media commentator. With just one tweet they’ve already garnered more than 102,000 followers and have become the talk of the social media message boards.

Screen Shot 2014-06-06 at 12.37.26 PMDropping their first tweet today, which reads: “We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet.” the CIA has essentially shown itself to be “the people’s social media champion.” Okay, I wouldn’t really go that far, even sarcastically, but it will be interesting to see where this account goes from here. Are they going to give us 140 tips on spotting terrorists? Are we going to be digitally informed of the threat level currently facing America? Or is this actually a purely PR-based initiative that is meant to make the CIA appear likeable — i.e. lame jokes and recipes for spicy potato salad?

What I can’t help but notice is that they are already following 25 other Twitter accounts. I would hate to be one of those 25.
