Have a seat — this may be a lot to process. Are you sitting? Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Lloyd Ahlquist, better known as EpicLloyd and even better known as one-half of theEpic Rap Battles duo, is planning a two-day interactive live improv event. The event will be a first-of-its-kind global interactive improv event featuring performers based in LA, London and Tokyo all under the direction of EpicLloyd.
The event will take place on August 1 and 2 at the YouTube Space LA with performers interacting over a live link from the YouTube Creator Spaces in London and Tokyo. The show will incorporate familiar bits like live rap battles, with new material from so called “pain-prov” in which improv sketches will involve elements of torture or discomfort, to live improv games inspired by viewers tweets and social media posts and played by participants in all three locations.
Lloyd Ahlquist personally recruited improv performers from well-known local troupes like the Upright Citizens Brigade, Second City and the Westside Comedy Theater. These performers will work alongside members of the Tokyo-based sketch duo The Pirates of Tokyo Bay and a pair of British improv performers recruited through local auditions. The show will also feature a slew of familiar YouTube faces including Chester See, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Jessi Smiles and Zach Sherwin.
In addition to the two-day live stream, footage from the event will appear on the EpicLloyd YouTube channel starting in August through to December. “Off The Top” is not only a demonstration of YouTube talent and a unique experiment in interactive entertainment. It’s also a demonstration of the resources available to creators through the YouTube creator spaces which remain one of the most unique ways in which the video giant supports and develops its roster of creative talent.
