We have more good news for Machinima. Just three weeks after the gaming network’s home channel passed the 5 billion view mark, a milestone previously marked only by pop princess Rihanna, the latest Comscore report now shows Machinima eking its way back into the top 10 most-viewed YouTube partner channels with just over 15 million unique US views. This is the first time that Machinima has cracked the top 10 since last September.
The months since Machinima’s last appearance at the top of the charts haven’t been the easiest. Machinima laid off 42 employees earlier this year just before receiving an $18 million cash infusion from Warner Brothers. While the additional funding served as a much-needed shot in the arm for the network, it still fell short of expectations. After a few turbulent months a Comscore surge is definitely good news for new Machimia CEO Chad Gutstein, who replaced Machinima co-founder and current chairman Allen DeBevoise back in March.
The report also holds some good news for other leading multi-channel networks. Maker Studios and Fullscreen both made the leap into the top 10 for overall online content properties. Disney-owned Maker claimed the No. 7 spot vacated by Microsoft, while Fullscreen managed to make it through the door at No. 10.
In less surprising comScore news, Microsoft slipped down the rankings for US platforms from seventh in May to ninth in June. With Microsoft announcing the closure of its digital entertainment studio amidst some 18,000 layoffs, the platform isn’t expected to surge back into the lead any time soon.
Share this because gaming is blowing up and it’s bringing Machinima back to the top!
