Charlie Sheen’s Ice Bucket Challenge Nice But Inaccurate

Charlie Sheen made a big “tah-dah” moment when he surprised everyone by dumping $10,000 instead of ice water from his bucket during the Ice Bucket Challenge. His actions made him look like the only celebrity who wasn’t dodging the charity side of things. That would be a great gesture … if it were accurate. See, many celebs HAVE been dumping the cold water … as well as donating a lot of money to the Lou Gehrig’s Disease charity, ALS.

According to the N.Y. Times, “As of Sunday, the (ALS) association said it had received $13.3 million in donations since July 29, compared with $1.7 million during the same period last year.”

So don’t go thinking that the likes of Bill Gates, Elon Musk and the Zuck were just trying to dodge a few measly bucks. It’s like Howard Stern more or less said, many celebs give a lot of money to charity without dumping ice on their head. Don’t go making assumptions.

And before you go away thinking we don’t know our stuff, it wasn’t the inventor of the Ice Bucket Challenge who passed away — it was a friend of early adopter, Pete Frates, who helped spread the charity word, that passed away in an unrelated diving accident.
