Jake Vale might be one of the first second-generation YouTubers. His dad is YouTube’s prankster prince, Jack Vale but Jake is quickly forging his own path. He’s mastered the art of pranking and now he’s branching out and experimenting with new content. He’s even joining his dad on stage at NMR Live! (Have you got your tickets yet?) We got to chat with Jake about comedy, YouTube and where it’s all heading. The upshot? Jake Vale is definitely his father’s son, but he’s not going to stay in his dad’s shadow.
You grew up in a YouTube family so to speak — if you couldn’t do YouTube what would you be doing as a career?
Jake Vale: Most likely I would just have a typical 9 to 5 job, but thanks to YouTube I get to make people laugh!
Your early videos were pranks, similar to your dad, but recently you’ve had a lot of success with your “Censored” series. Is it fun branching out into new territory?
I love it! Mostly because I love being able to make as many people as possible have a great laugh, so doing different styles of comedy makes it possible to reach a wider audience. As a plus, I really enjoy making them because they even give me a good laugh!
Outside of your own videos what kind of comedy to you like. What makes you laugh?
Stand-up comedy makes me laugh the most. I would be lost without comedic geniuses to get inspiration from like Robin Williams (R.I.P.), George Carlin (R.I.P.) and Kevin Hart.
Are you excited to perform at NMR Live?
Of course, I cant wait!
How is performing for fans live different from interacting with your audience online?
Well, for one, it is a lot more pressure live ‘cause it’s almost an obligation to be the “funny man” in person as in videos. But I love seeing the priceless faces of people laughing in person rather than just seeing it in a comment. I love getting feedback from fans and people because I like to know what people like so I can adjust the content to what people really laugh and smile about.
When I interviewed your dad he mentioned taking you on tour — is that something you’re interested in?
YES! I would love to develop a show for people. It would be a dream to tour the world with one mission in mind: make people happy!
What’s the coolest thing you’ve seen on YouTube recently?
The coolest thing that I have seen on YouTube recently is probably watching the success of other YouTubers that are good friends!
What’s the worst thing you’ve seen on YouTube recently?
The worst thing I have seen on YouTube recently is all the FAKE pranks and people doing mean-hearted videos just bothering people.
Do you have any new projects coming up that we should look out for?
Actually I do. I am in the process of actually having a more formatted show on my channel, just trying to reach a larger audience with a larger variety of videos and styles of comedy. Drawing inspiration from people like Jimmy Tatro — maybe some funny sketches or short films along with more pranks and censored videos, and maybe a segment where I get to know my fans better!
