John Green is once again calling on the Nerdfighter community to help with a worthy cause — water.
After traveling to Ethiopia with the Gates foundation earlier this year and hearing from residents in rural areas just how limited their access to clean water is, Green worked with Water.org in setting up a fundraiser to help change that. He notes that the money will go towards establishing “safe water access for 8,000 people in Ethiopia,” and will further improve healthcare conditions in the country.
Even better, should the fundraiser meet its goal of $100,000, Bill Gates will match it dollar for dollar.
The author and vlogger is no stranger to leading the charge to raise money for charity. Every year, he and his brother Hank host Project for Awesome, advocating for their community to raise awareness and money for various charities through YouTube videos. Last year, the event raised over $850,000. Hopefully this latest endeavor will bring out the altruism in the online community as well.
